Old pictures are not just pictures. They are memories. We human beings love images. We live our old days through these pictures. And everybody wants to preserve these memories in the form of pictures. But the problem is that as the time passes, the memories fade and the pictures get damaged. So it becomes essential to revive those memories by fixing the photos digitally. Everybody is doing that. So if you are also one of them, you are on the right track. But not everyone is a graphic designer. There are certain things you need to take care of while bringing back old photos in new form. For proper success of your project, you will need to take care of certain things given below.
The first thing you will need to do obviously is scanning. But there are some preparations you need to do pre-scanning. Old photos have a lot of stuff like dirt, smudges, cracks and lint on them. So you will need to check for that and remove it from the photos before scanning. Next you also need to check the scanner. There could be dirt, scratch, hair anything on the scanner bed. You will need to remove that first. The scanner glass has to be completely clean. After everything is clean and nice, use gloves to scan the photos to save them from any further finger-prints. Once the photo is placed properly in the scanner, select the type of scan (colour or black and white) you want. To ensure the quality and usefulness of the photos, select the resolution to minimum of 300dpi. For enhancement or restoration of photos, you will need a high quality picture. Now you can start scanning the photo, but be sure to avoid any corrections while scanning is taking place. You will have ample opportunity to do so after you have saved the scanned copy. If the photo is too old or in too bad a shape, you will need a software like Photoshop to restore it completely.
Picture restoration is not that big a deal. As long as you are on the task, you might as well check the photo retouching services available online to revive your very old photos as new.
In short, restoring old photos digitally is no rocket science. All you need is a computer, a scanner and a good photo editing software or simply give the job to the experts.
