How to reduce and avoid pallet rack damage in your warehouse
If you want to make sure that your pallets are safe for use and that your warehouses never have accidents then it is a good idea to tighten up safety regulations at the warehouse and to ensure that everybody is aligned about what needs to be done. That being said, it is almost impossible for you to avoid minor accidents at the warehouse from time to time. This is because pallets are usually handles roughly through being stacked being hit by forklifts and so on. Of course all this could be avoided through monitoring and ensuring that rules are adhered to, but you could also ensure that safety is taken seriously though continuous training and by ensuring that regular inspections of equipment are done from time to time. With this in mind, below are some of the things that you can do to ensure that accidents and incidents in the warehouse are avoided and specifically racks and pallets don’t sustain too much damage that they cause accidents.
If you want to ensure that the equipment in the warehouse will not only stand the test of time but that it will also hold up well against most impact that could happen in the warehouse on account of being hit by forklifts and such, you should definitely get good quality equipment. For this specific case, getting the best quality racks or pallets that you can find is very important not only because it will allow you to have some leeway or some acceptable margin for errors when accidents happen but it will also cost you a lot less to get better quality pallets in the long run. By the way, don’t get me wrong when I say good quality pallets and think that I mean expensive pallets. For obvious reasons, good quality pallets are usually expensive but there are of course some very good examples where cheap pallets can be very high quality as well. What matters is that you know where you can get such pallets so that you can get a combination of both inexpensive and high quality.
By far the best type of pallets are wood pallets. Wood pallets are better able to absorb impact and if used in the right way can hold a lot of weight. That being said, you need to have a professional give some guidance for how much weight can be used and whether you should stack them if at all. Speaking of professionals, ensure that your staff at the warehouse are trained on safety procedures continuously and ensure that there is an anonymous reporting system for accidents that happen at the warehouse so that any damage can be attended to immediately.
