Electric Water Purifiers Versus the Non-Electric Ones

A water ionizer is a home appliance in particular that claims to raise the pH of drinking water by using electrolysis in order to separate the incoming water stream into acidic and alkaline components. This treated water is known as alkaline water.

Moreover, there are two types of water purifiers or ionizers that you can buy today. First is the non-electric water purifiers and the other is the electric water purifiers. These both purifiers produce alkaline water but when it comes to the major benefits of alkaline ionized water, the non-electric models fall short.

Alkaline Water Vs Alkaline Ionized Water

Alkaline water is something is available almost everywhere. You will find it in bottles that are sold in grocery and health food stores. You can even get it from many online stores. You can also find several non-electric water filters that will alkalize your tap water without using electricity.

These type of alkaline water will usually have a pH of 8.5 to 9.5 that is created by adding alkaline minerals to the water. The only thing that they don’t offer is the anti-oxidant properties that are only found in alkaline ionized water which is obtained through the process of electrolysis.

The Basics of the Non-Electric Purifiers

Non-electric water ionizers are basically made of 2 or 4 internal filters where one filter will remove the contaminants from the water. Where else, the remaining ones will contain minerals that are released into the water elevating the pH. Although, some ionizers will also contain magnets or minerals combinations which are specially designed to give the water a mild electrical charge through the process of ion exchange process.

The only drawback of these ionizers is the inability to adjust the pH level of water. The pH level produced by a non-electric water ionizer will be based on the existing minerals in your source water.

On the other hand, people choose alkaline ionized water for drinking, one of the key benefits of having a water ionizer is having access to clean, filtered water at several different pH levels that can be used for cooking. Most of the people spend money on water ionizer in order to eliminate the need to buy bottled water.

When you Don’t Use Alkaline Ionized Water

Many responsible water ionizer dealers and ionized water advocates will suggest you to not drink alkaline ionized water. Especially at near mealtimes or while taking medicines or certain supplements. This is because the ionization process speeds up the body’s absorption of the prescribed medications that are designed to be released into the body at a certain rate.

Further, within 30 to 45 minutes before and after meals, drinking alkaline water can interfere with the body’s ability to break down foods for proper absorption of nutrients. The alkaline water dilutes the acids in the stomach that break down the foods for proper digestion.

So, drinking alkaline water at or near meals can result in indigestion, nausea, diarrhea, and cravings for more food as the body was unable to get the proper nutrients from the meal. If you are looking for water that is suitable for mixing cereals for babies then use water in the neutral or purified setting on your water ionizer.

While there are many people who are sensitive to alkaline water above an 8.5 or 9.0 pH level and drinking 9.5 level alkaline water can cause unpleasant side effects on their health.

Limited Antioxidant Properties

While drinking alkaline water is beneficial, the antioxidant properties are what makes alkaline ionized water unique. It is the trending nowadays and the health benefits come from the antioxidant properties that are created during the ionization process.

By this, the non-electric ionizer designers have developed these products with blends of minerals and media that do offer a mild electric charge. While in most cases there will be some anti-oxidant properties to the water. While in comparison to the electric ones, the non-electric ones are less expensive.
