How TV Broadcasting Works?

How TV broadcasting Works

Millions of people watch television every day. However, most of them are not even sure how the technology behind the broadcasting works. Although some of the components have changed in due course of time, more or less, the procedure is same.

Several parts are needed to receive in the broadcasting, like image source, broadcasting platform, sound source, transmitter, display device and sound system.

TV Broadcasting

Let us get to know about these elements in details.

Any program, TV show, movie or news can be image source. It is just the video of the source and doesn’t include audio. It is usually recorded on camera or in some cases flying spot scanner.

Sound source

To complete the medium, audio is needed with video. The audio signals of the show constitute the source, and it may come in various forms like stereo, mono or digitally processed sound.

The function of a transmitter is to send audio as well as video signals over the airwaves. It generally transmits more than the single signal at a time. Besides, it also works to modulate both sound and picture in one signal and send this transmission to a receiver of the TV set.

A receiver works to receive the transmitted signals and turns radio waves into useful signals that can be processed and broadcasted into an image as well as sound.

Display device

It is TV set or monitor. A display device turns the received electrical signals into visible light. On a normal TV set, cathode ray tube technology is used.

Sound device

Speakers whether accompanying TV set or in-build functions to modify the received sound signals to sound waves so that it can be played along with video.

Broadcast TV

There are three main ways a TV program is broadcasted.

Satellite TV

Satellite TV is generally a digital TV signal that is transmitted from a satellite orbiting the earth. They have special equipment to receive programs and operate on a special frequency. It is why they come under paid services.
